2025 Fall Ball

Register for Fall Softball 2025!!

As it has in recent years, the GVGSA fall softball offering consists of two elements. Both are heavily dependent on volunteers. Both require registration and a $50 fee. Both typically start after Labor Day and end before Thanksgiving. Both are typically run on Sundays to avoid conflicts with AYSO because many softball players also enjoy soccer. The two options are described below.

Please note that in addition to adjusting the dates that define a player’s age classification, USA Softball also redefined registration dates for coaches . As a result, 2025 Coach registration for USA Softball ends on August 31, 2025. For Fall Ball, all coaches for all teams that wish to use GVGSA facilities or equipment must complete/renew USA Coach registration for 2026 including Background Check and SafeSport Training (usually a "Refresher" course for those who have previously completed the training).

At this time, we are particularly interested in finding players who are interested in fall league play because those Leagues have pending deadlines for team registration. Option 1: Fall League Play

GVGSA does not run a formal softball league in fall. Teams comprised of GVGSA players are formed and play in fall Leagues hosted by neighboring softball associations (principally Ventura but this season we have more information about fall Leagues in Camarillo, Westlake-Aguora, and Orcutt). These teams are typically formed by All-star managers and coaches with players they know from the All-star season. Additional team fees are required for this option e.g. $1400/team in some cases.

This fall season is a combination of practices and games but entirely dependent on the managers, coaches, and parents as described below. Fall Ball teams are formed and run independently of traditional GVGSA guidelines for regular season and all-star teams. The players are selected by the managers and coaches who have volunteered their time. The League reviews and approves the manager applications (they are traditionally regular and/or all-star managers) however, the League does not dictate the player selection process. Individual coaches form teams based on an open sign-up process rather than a draft format and each team is an independent entity responsible for paying all of its own fees. A nominal per player fee will be charged by GVGSA to cover the use of fields and equipment and insurance but GVGSA does not fund any Fall Ball teams. The number of available teams and age divisions available is based on the number of volunteer managers and interested players. GVGSA wants every interested player to find a spot to improve their skills and their love of the game. However, there is no guarantee that there will be enough managers and coaches to have a spot on a team for every interested player.

This year, so far, we have managers stepping up for 14U, 12U, and 10U; we had an 8U team play in Ventura last year but a manager has not stepped up for this year, yet. If you ever thought about managing or coaching a fall team, please inquire.

Option 2: Fall Developmental Program

The GVGSA fall developmental program consists of eight, two hour sessions on Sundays starting after Labor Day and ending before Thanksgiving (tentatively Sept 7th through October 26^th for 2025). Times are dependent on coach preference/availability and are to be determined for fall 2025.

The sessions will focus on skill development. Players are grouped according to the age Division in which they will be playing in the Spring 2026 Season. Helping players acclimate to new rules and ball size are important elements of the Fall Program. To the greatest extent possible players will be matched with comparably skilled players to allow them to raise their skills together.

Please understand it requires a tremendous amount of time, work, and money to run a full Spring Season. Fall Ball is intended to enable girls to play during the fall season while minimizing the commitment of the GVGSA organization.
